The bicommunal choir that amplified its efforts since the opening of the gates started a series of concerts today. The choir, which believes that peace could come to Cyprus only with a solution, is going to give a concert at Acropolis Park today.
After practicing in Pyla for seven years, the choir that consists of Turkish and Greek Cypriots amplified its efforts since the opening of the gates. The choir has been working diligently for 2 months and will soon be ready for the music lovers.
The choir gave its first concert on May 3, 2003 for the 45th anniversary events of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality at Ataturk Square in Nicosia. The choir is going to give another concert at Acropolis Park in Nicosia, which will start at 18.45 o’clock.
The choir that is directed jointly by Elena Melanidovou and Caner Ilgan will give another concert on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 19.30 in PASYDY Amphitheatre.
Although the choir has the 28.06.03-Limassol and 23.07.03- Dhali concerts scheduled, numerous orders from Southern Cyprus are on hold. The reason for that is the ongoing 1st international theatre fair of Cyprus organized by the 3 large municipalities of the Turkish side and the possibility of getting offers to perform during the fair.
One of the most liked songs performed by the choir is the one whose lyrics were written by the Turkish Cypriot poet Nese Yasin and music composed by the Greek Cypriot musician Marios Tokas. The song is called ‘One should love its country’ and the words go like: ‘one should love its own country. My dad always says that. My country is divided into two from the middle…which part should one love?’
